Tragedy of the Commons
The Tragedy of the Commons describes situations where individuals acting in their own short-term interest gradually damage a shared resource. Overfishing reduces fish populations for everyone. Within organizations, departments competing for limited budgets may weaken overall performance by optimizing only for themselves.
