- Description: Plan an engaging introduction for your nonfiction book. Clarify its purpose, introduce its main themes, explain what readers can expect, and prepare them for the journey ahead. Remember, the introduction is often best written once your chapters are complete.
- Author: Melanie Nogueira

The introduction is your opportunity to welcome readers into your book, explain what it is about, and help them understand what they can expect to gain from reading it. It establishes the purpose and scope of your book, introduces its main themes, and prepares readers for the chapters ahead.

Although the introduction appears at the beginning of your book, it is often best written towards the end of the writing process. Once your chapters are complete, you will have a much clearer picture of the book as a whole. This makes it easier to write an introduction that accurately reflects its content, structure, and central message.

These exercises will help you bring together the essential information readers need before they begin. By the end of this workbook, you will have a clear outline that can be developed into an engaging introduction with the help of AI.

**A note about when to write your introduction**

Although the introduction appears at the beginning of your book, it is often one of the last things you write. Once your chapters are complete, you'll have a much clearer understanding of the book's overall message, structure, and content. This makes it easier to write an introduction that accurately reflects what readers will find inside.
